CLEARLAKE ?Federal Stimulus money will be put to use Sept. 22 when Fedco Construction begins work on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Collector Street Rehabilitation Project in the City of Clearlake. The project consists of roadway reconstruction in several areas of the city.
Reconstruction activities will occur on Burns Valley Road, Austin Road and Division Avenue. The project will involve the excavation and removal of existing asphalt and the old road base and placement of new asphalt and minor underground utility repair. The new asphalt will be placed in two lifts: a base course and finished course.
Estimated completion date is Oct. 15. The base bid on the project is $647,536.
“We were the first in CalTrans District 1 to award a project using Federal Stimulus funds,” City Administrator Dale Neiman said.
Work will begin first on Burns Valley Road on Tuesday. The project area is Rumsey Road to 2,400 feet west to Woodland Drive. It will entail a four- to six-inch grind, pavement replacement and overlay, varying 21 to 40 feet wide.
The rehabilitation project will continue to Austin Road following work completion on Burns Valley Road.
The Austin Drive project area consists of 4,800 feet from Lakeshore Drive to Old Highway 53. The project will entail a six-inch grind and pavement replacement, 22 feet wide.
The project also consists of rehabilitation on Division Avenue between Lakeshore Drive and Pine Street.
Work hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Electronic message boards will be in place prior to the start of work advising motorists of the work schedule and road closures. Portions of Burns Valley Road and Austin Road will be subject to closure.
Access to local residents will be made available at all times during construction. However, delays may be experienced. Road closures will remain in effect during construction hours. Cooler weather than normal or rainy weather could delay the work schedule.
