LAKEPORT — Registration for the fall semester of the Mendocino College Lake Center Theatre Class 200 (Acting Performance) has already begun and the first class was held Tuesday. Audition begins during the second class, taking place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. tonight at the Lake County Arts Council”s Main Street Gallery, 325 N. Main Street in Lakeport.
In an unusual partnership, the Lake County Arts Council (LCAC) is co-sponsoring the acting class with Mendocino College, which allows the class to present “The Dastardly Doctor Devereaux” by Billy St. John, a very funny family musical melodrama, during the first two weeks of December 2009. Class times will be devoted to rehearsals of the play.
Registration for Theatre 220 is continuing at the Mendocino College Lakeport Campus, located at 1005 Parallel Drive. Classes will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. or 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. as needed, Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre at 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport. If you want to act in the production or serve on the production team, where you can learn production work in all areas of staging, please attend tonight”s beginning class.
More than 25 opportunities for either on-stage casting or off-stage participation in this large musical production are available for men, women and children of all ages, shapes and sizes. Class signups are required to participate and obtain college credit.
If you want to act, this is your great chance for fun and learning stage craft. Experienced actors also join the class, act in the production and help newcomers, giving you exposure to all levels of acting. Tuition for the class is $30 and there may be a few selected scholarships available by contacting instructor Carol Dobusch, 279-2269, a veteran actress and director for more than 30 years.
The new partnership is a great opportunity for the Lake County Arts Council to complete its mission statement by extending the arts to the community through education in performing arts. Whether you are a producer, actor, director, choreographer, musician or supporter, set builder, painter, lighting or sound technician, make-up or hair designer or a supporter of one or more of the participating nonprofit organizations (Mendocino College, Lake County Arts Council, Soper-Reese Community Theatre or the arts in general), it is win-win situation for Lake County, and those who want to act will have an opportunity to get on stage and learn or improve their craft.
