Being four months new to Lake County, I”ve been attending many local events so that I can get to know my new home better and enjoy all the great things that happen here. I”ve gone to the Heron Festival, the Taste of Lakeport, the Blue Wing Saloon blues festival, the Wine Adventure Weekend, the farmers” markets and shows at the Soper-Reese Theatre. But I have to say that last Saturday”s Bluegrass Festival at Anderson Marsh State Historic Park was so remarkable an experience that I had to write this letter to the editor.

Why? Because it seemed to me this event and its location encompass what is unique and special about Lake County. It celebrated this area”s art, history and the lake. It brought people of all ages and economic levels together for an afternoon of pure enjoyment. And here”s the shame of it ? the park is on the “endangered list” for closure by the state. Should that happen, I hope the bluegrass festival”s organizers find a new Lake County location, but it won”t be the same and a piece of the county”s identity will be lost. If you care about the park, like I do, pay it a visit. While you”re there sign a petition, or sign one at the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Anderson Marsh is worth fighting for.
