LAKEPORT — Jake Cimolino rushed for 112 yards in the first quarter and the Fort Bragg Timberwolves rolled past the Clear Lake Cardinals 49-20 in a North Central League I interlock varsity football game that was all over by halftime Friday night in Lakeport.
The Timberwolves (2-0) scored 21 points in each of the first two quarters for a 42-0 halftime lead.
Clear Lake (1-1) battled back with 20 points in the second half but the night clearly belonged to Fort Bragg”s offensive line and Cimolino.
“They definitely were a lot more physical than we were,” Clear Lake coach Schad Schweitzer said. “They beat us up in the first half.”
Schweitzer said he was pleased with the Cardinals” effort in the second half, which included touchdown runs by Kevin Burt, Ryan Lunas and Ryan Richardson.
“I told them not to give up and they fought back,” Schweitzer said.
It didn”t take long for Fort Bragg to establish itself, according to Schweitzer.
“They intercepted Richardson”s first pass of the game and took it back for a touchdown,” Schweitzer said.
The Timberwolves also returned a punt for a touchdown.
“Their special teams did some damage,” Schweitzer said.
Burt, coming off a 292-yard rushing performance in the Cardinals” win last week against Pierce, finished with 24 carries for 124 yards. Lunas added 64 yards on 14 carries.
The Cardinals did force four turnovers. Richardson, Lunas and Seth Glazier recovered fumbles and Burt had an interception.
Clear Lake hits the road next Friday to play the 0-2 Kelseyville Knights.
