LAKEPORT ? The Lake County Planning Commission agreed Thursday the county”s purchase of an undeveloped lot to create a town center in downtown Middletown conforms to the general plan.
The five parcels amounting to more than one acre near Highway 29 and Calistoga Street are near the future library and senior center, said Keith Gronendyke, associate planner. He said the project could stimulate economic development around the park.
Commissioner Clelia Baur drove to the site where she saw garbage and cars in the empty lot as well as large trees, she said.
“It looks like the people in the area are using it as a parking lot,” Baur said.
With a 4-1 vote, the commission also approved use permits for two billboards on Empire Lane in Middletown. Commissioner Cliff Swetnam dissented.
