LAKEPORT ? A fire sparked about 6:40 p.m. Wednesday in a field at the future site of the Lakeport Fire Protection District station near Larrecou Lane and Konocti Avenue in Lakeport.

Within five minutes of arrival, fire crews contained the vegetation fire that burned less than an acre where construction for the station hadn”t started, the Lakeport Fire Protection District reported. Firefighters continued to mop up for about an hour.

Capt. Rick Bergem directed crews to use hoses to combat the flames on both flanks before it could spread to threaten structures.

No injuries were reported and no structures caught fire, the fire district reported.

Three engines from the Lakeport Fire Protection District and one advanced life support ambulance from Kelseyville Fire Department responded, the district reported.

Fire staff is investigating the cause, said Chief Ken Wells.

“People for some reason set things on fire and they go undetermined,” Wells said. “This one will probably go undetermined.”

Wells said most fires are set intentionally but he doesn”t know if its location has any significance.
