MENDOCINO COUNTY ? A 36-year-old motorcyclist without a helmet died after a head-on collision with another motorcyclist about 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Mill Creek Road in the Cow Mountain Recreation Area, California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated.
Law enforcement could not release the 36-year-old LaPine, Ore. man”s name until they notified his family, Officer Randy England of Ukiah CHP said. Fire crews pronounced the man dead at the scene about six miles east of Old River Road.
An ambulance took the other motorcyclist, Jose Chavarria Rodriguez, 27 of Santa Rosa, to Ukiah Valley Medical Center for moderate injuries, England said.
Rodriguez was riding about 15 mph east on his red Honda CRF 250 motorcycle when he collided with the La Pine man who was riding west on his yellow Suzuki 80 at unknown speeds, England said. CHP is investigating the cause of the crash.
Rodriguez was wearing his helmet, England said.
England said he didn”t know if the road is paved or if there was a turn near the crash site. Mill Creek Road is a popular place to ride motorcycles, England said.
