MENDOCINO COUNTY ? The Mendocino County Sheriff”s Office released the name of the 36-year-old LaPine, Ore. man who died in a head-on motorcycle collision about 4:15 p.m. Saturday on Mill Creek Road in the Cow Mountain Recreation District.

Michael David Thomas was pronounced dead at scene about six miles east of Old River Road in Mendocino County, Lt. Rusty Noe said.

Thomas was riding his yellow Suzuki 80 without a helmet at unknown speeds when he collided with another motorcyclist, Jose Chavarria Rodriguez, 27 of Santa Rosa, who was riding his red Honda CRF 250 about 15 mph, Officer Randy England of Ukiah CHP said. Rodriguez was wearing a helmet. An ambulance took Rodriguez to Ukiah Valley Medical Center for moderate injuries, England said. CHP is investigating the cause of the collision, England said.
