CLEARLAKE ? The identity of a man stabbed to death in Clearlake last week was officially released Tuesday by the Lake County Coroner”s Office. The man has been identified as Shelby Ryan Uehling, 25, of Bozeman, MT. According to the coroner”s statement, Uehling had been visiting and staying with friends in Clearlake for several months prior to his death.
Two Clearlake men have been arrested in connection with the incident. Shannon Lee Edmonds, 35, and Melvin Dale Norton, 34 were arrested on murder charges Sept. 22.
“The only thing we”ve got from witnesses is that it may have been over issues of a dating relationship,” Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain said.
According to Chief McClain at approximately 1:15 a.m. Sept. 22 officers were dispatched to the area of Old Highway 53 and Clement Drive for a possible assault. Upon arrival officers found a stabbing victim, later identified as Uehling, lying off the side of the roadway. Uehling was transported to St. Helena Hospital Clearlake via Lake County Fire Protection District ambulance where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“From the autopsy it indicated the man was severely beaten and he suffered a stab wound in the buttocks, lower back that punctured a lung and there was a three-inch laceration in the neck area that severed the carotid artery,” Chief McClain said.
According to McClain a possible murder weapon has been recovered. “Investigators recovered several items of evidence, which one of the items is a possible murder weapon. Until we get forensics done we won”t know for sure,” he said.
Edmonds and Norton remain in custody in the Lake County Jail. Bail for both men has been set at $1 million apiece.
