LAKEPORT — Clear Lake reeled off four straight goals — all in the second half — and went on to tie St. Vincent 4-4 in a North Central League I South varsity boys” soccer game on Thursday in Lakeport.
St. Vincent led 1-0 after the first half and scored the first two goals of the second half to go up 3-0. Clear Lake then rallied to take a 4-3 lead.
“The team made a miraculous comeback,” Clear Lake coach Chris Cortez said. “That was the best game in my opinion that we”ve played thus far. It was a surprise.”
Juan Alvarado opened the scoring for Clear Lake (0-1-1, 1-4-1) with a penalty kick. Ivan Sanchez scored the next two goals, the first on a throw-in from Nate Secrest and the second with an assist from Jose Lupe-Nunez, to tie the game at 3-all.
Alvarado then scored again, this time with an assist from Sanchez, to give Clear Lake a 4-3 lead, one that held up until the final two minutes of extra time.
“We tried to hold on,” Cortez said.
Clear Lake tries for its first South win on Tuesday afternoon in Upper Lake.
