LOWER LAKE — The Kelseyville Knights put their first notch in the win column on Thursday, beating the Lower Lake Trojans 3-0 in a North Central League I North varsity girls” soccer game at Lower Lake.

Lower Lake (0-2 North) suited up just 12 players for the games.

“It”s kind of nice,” Kelseyville coach Mark Andre said of the Knights” initial victory of the 2009 season. “We had a lot of players step up and play well.”

Monique Santana scored twice for the Knights (1-1, 1-7) and Sam Ledesma added a goal and one assist.

“We controlled the game and had a lot of shots on goal,” Andre said. “Lower Lake”s goalie did a great job.”

Kelseyville led 2-0 after the first half.

Among the Kelseyville standouts were Maria Aguirre, Linda Olvera and Letty Covarrubias, according to Andre.

Lower Lake coach Daniel Wieman also was pleased with the play of his squad.

“We had some excellent play,” he said.

Natalia Frias and Brittany Franklin turned in strong passing performances for the Trojans, according to Wieman, and Jonesha Beasley led the Lower Lake offense.

“We”re still working hard,” Wieman said.
