LAKEPORT ? Law enforcement officers screened 153 drivers and arrested one for suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI checkpoint Sept. 26 on South Main Street near Highway 175 in Lakeport, the Lake County Sheriff”s Office reported.
Sheriff”s deputies, Lakeport police and Clearlake police with the help of the Office of Traffic Safety ran the checkpoint from 10 p.m. to midnight, said Capt. Jim Bauman of the sheriff”s office.
Officers arrested a motorist for driving without a license and another for driving on a suspended license, Bauman said. Three drivers also received citations for traffic violations.
Law enforcement has checkpoints “to rid the highway of people driving under the influence of alcohol,” Bauman said.
The Office of Traffic Safety provides a grant for Lake County law enforcement to allow officers to focus on finding drunken drivers when they”re most likely to be on the road, according to a sheriff”s department press release.
