CLEARLAKE ? The City of Clearlake”s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Collector Street Rehabilitation Project will continue Monday on Pomo Road. The project, which utilizes federal stimulus funds, also includes rehabilitation improvements on Burns Valley and Austin roads.
Fedco Construction began the project on Sept. 22. Rehabilitation of Pomo Road is expected to conclude on Oct. 9. Estimated completion date on the entire project is Oct. 15.
“The project is going pretty good,” Clearlake Public Works Superintendent Doug Herren said. “We finished the overlay on Austin on Friday and striping will be done either next week or the week after that. Monday morning they will be starting on Pomo Hill.”
Herren said he is still working out the details involved with rehabilitating the intersection at Pomo and Arrowhead roads near Pomo Elementary School. “We have to get in touch with the school and see how we are going to work the intersection,” he said. “We need to make sure we can accommodate the buses in the morning and afternoon.”
Herren said he is pleased with the work Fedco has performed thus far. “When they were doing the grinding and excavation on Burns Valley and Austin it looked really good,” he said. “Fedco is very professional and I think the community will be pleased with the results.”
Herren added appreciation for the community, stating that residents and motorists have been very helpful and understanding throughout the rehabilitation project. Herren said utilities providers have also been cooperative.
Rehabilitation on Pomo Road will involve the excavation and removal (grinding) of the existing asphalt and old road base; placement of new asphalt pavement and minor underground utility repair. The new asphalt pavement will be placed in two lifts: a base course and finished course.
Electronic message boards will be in place prior to the start of work advising motorists of the work schedule and road closures. No street parking will be allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Portions of Pomo Road will be subject to closure during construction and detours will be provided. Access to local residents will be made available at all times during construction; however, delays may be experienced. Road closures will remain in effect during construction hours.
Work schedule is weather dependent and cooler than normal or rainy weather could delay the work schedule.
