LAKEPORT ? Lake County will wait to close the garbage transfer station in Lakeport until Oct. 31 or later.
The county had planned to close the station Monday but will wait until operations can be moved to the Lake County Waste Solution after construction workers finish improvements, Public Services Director Kim Clymire announced Friday in a press release.
“This is a win-win situation because it will save the county approximately $250,000 per year in operating costs and at the same time, improved services will be provided by LCWS,” Clymire said.
The Lake County Waste Solution will provide a one-stop disposal and recycling facility at the same rates the county charges at the transfer station, Clymire said. The facility will “increase recycling services and diversion rates that will help to save our natural resources and extend the life of the landfill.” Lake County Waste Solution, formerly Timberline Disposal, is located on 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport.
