LAKEPORT — Timing is everything in sports and the Clear Lake Cardinals picked the perfect night to play one of their best matches of the season as they blitzed the Cloverdale Eagles 25-17, 25-15, 25-23 in the North Central League I South varsity volleyball opener for both teams on Tuesday in Lakeport.
“They meshed very well tonight,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said of her players. “They”re finally playing smart, getting the dink and seeing the court very well.”
Chanel Reese powered the Cardinals up front with 10 kills. Rylie Gabehart added eight kills and two blocks and Jessica Asbury had six kills, one block and two aces.
“We”re not a strong offensive team, but we played smart,” Psalmonds said. “They stepped it up and played really well.”
Clear Lake setter Katie Reynolds had 27 assists and two aces. Vanessa Tullos also helped out with eight digs.
The Cardinals host St. Vincent Thursday. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m.
