LAKEPORT ? The County Auditor-Controller”s Office will review the Lake County Sheriff”s Office”s use of a Drug Enforcement Administration grant for helicopter training as requested by the Lake County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

Board members voted 3-1 to have the county start the audit and hire a private forensic auditor if needed. Supervisor Anthony Farrington voted no with Supervisor Jeff Smith absent. The board plans to review the issue in a month.

Supervisor Rob Brown said he would like to get the issue resolved.

“I firmly believe the administrative office wouldn”t be influenced by other departments or the county,” Supervisor Jim Comstock said.

Chairwoman Denise Rushing questioned how much money the county wants to spend on the grant audit.

Farrington said hiring an independent auditor would cost less than misuse of public funds.

The board addressed a number of projects and issues at the meeting at the Lake County Courthouse.

Board members recommended that public works director Brent Siemer move forward with plans for Lampson Field Airport to create a sewer transmission line to Lakeport facilities.

Siemer will check the status of a federal grant, bring the master plan back to the board and communicate with the Lake County Airmen”s Association as requested by the board.

Damon Trimble of the Airmen”s Association said they”d like more hangars, a weather safety upgrade, a north-south runway and to work with the board. The board approved the demolition of the Lucerne Clubhouse building in part because it has been deemed worthless, but if someone would like to place it on their private property they can contact the public services department.

Board members decided 4-0 to approve the general plan rezoning recommended by the Planning Commission.
