LAKEPORT — Clear Lake, joined Cloverdale, St. Vincent and St. Helena for a Coastal Mountain Conference cross country meet on Wednesday through the rolling, oak-lined foothills at Petaluma”s Putnam Park.

“The course winds up the hill where you can see the city of Petaluma and does a figure eight at the top before you come back downhill on a road the last half mile,” Clear Lake coach Peter Stanley said of the 3-mile layout. “It”s a neat course.”

Cloverdale beat Clear Lake in all three divisions — varsity boys, girls and junior varsity boys — although several Cardinal runners distinguished themselves with solid outings, according to Stanley.

Jessie Lee of Clover-dale won the varsity boys” race in 17 minutes, 22 seconds, beating out teammate Matthew Wells (17:50).

Clear Lake”s runners were packed in the middle of the 36-runner field. Kyle Donald led the way in 14th place at 19:29 and Erik Hagberg was 15th in 19:31. Andy Garzoli finished 18th in 19:55.

“That”s a really good time for Andy,” Stanley said. “He had a great race and he”s one of our hardest workers.”

Whitney Edens of Cloverdale won the girls” race in 21:09. Clear Lake”s Jessica Henson was seventh in 23:29, just eight seconds in front of teammate Chloe Rojas at 23:37. Tamara Rojas was 10th in 24:10.

“I was impressed with Chloe,” Stanley said. “She”s getting closer to Jessica.”

In the JV boys” race, Dustin Moore of Cloverdale beat Clear Lake”s Brian Bradley and Matt Gatton to the finish line. Moore won in 19:46 and was followed by Bradley (19:54) and Gatton (19:55).

“Brian beat Matt by 18 seconds last week,” Stanley said. “I think they”ve both earned spots on the varsity.”
