CLEARLAKE OAKS ? A wildland fire on the Elem Indian Colony in Clearlake Oaks Saturday evening turned to a shooting incident.
A Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) advanced life support engine was pulled from the fire to respond to a medical call involving a shooting on the Elem Colony.
No further information regarding the shooting was available as of press time Monday due to the Columbus Day holiday.
According to NFPD Battalion Chief Pat Brown, the district responded to the wildland fire at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday and had it contained within an hour of dispatch. “The fire started in the colony and burned toward the Bradley property,” Brown said. “The fast rate of fire spread was due to 20 mph of wind off of Clear Lake.”
NFPD responded with three engines and two chief officers. CalFire responded with three engines, one dozer and a chief officer. Lake County Fire Protection District also provided mutual aid with response of an engine.
Units remained on scene until 9 p.m. conducting clean up efforts.
The area falls within local responsibility, which is covered by NFPD. According to Brown, the fire is under the investigation of the Lake County Arson Task Force.
