LAKEPORT? Mike Rothstein of Kelseyville teamed up with Joe Pool of Lower Lake to capture the annual Triton Boat Owners Team Bass Tournament held at Clear Lake over the weekend.
Rothstein and Pool weighed in a grand total of 40.26 pounds of bass for the two-day event and took home $5,200.
The event drew 94 teams and only owners of Triton boats were allowed to fish in the tournament which operated out of the Konocti Vista Casino, Resort and Marina. Fishermen from six western states and Mexico competed in the tournament.
Rothstein and Pool weighed in 20.64 pounds of bass on Saturday and followed that up with 19.62 pounds on Sunday.
They said they caught all their bass north of Lakeport using a LV-500 lipless crankbait made by Lucky Craft. On Saturday the team caught more than 30 bass and on Sunday more than 20.
The daily limit for the tournament was five fish per team but they were authorized to cull fish.
One of the highlights of the tournament was the drawing for a new fully rigged Triton bass boat valued at more than $40,000. Each Triton boat owner”s name was placed in a container and six names were drawn out.
The six recipients climbed into the new Triton boat and each stood on a one of the boat”s storage lockers.
In one of the lockers were the keys to the new boat. Bill Scharton of Oakley was standing on the storage locker that contained the keys. The other five fishermen received prizes that included trolling motors and fishing equipment.
The Triton factory is located in Ashland City, Tennessee and spokesman Bernie House said they will be holding their next tournament at Clear Lake in October of 2010.
