Who Are Christians anyway?

I am responding to Mr. Fleishman”s recent letter in which he implied that we might be ready for an updated version of the “Ten Commandments.” I am a conservative Christian, and a Republican. I have sat back and listened to a great deal of comments portraying people like myself as: intolerant, close-minded and promoters of hate. We are referred to as offensive and bigots. It has made me both angry and brokenhearted.

Yes, Christians do get angry. We just try not to act on that anger. When Mr. Fleishman maliciously attacked the very foundation of my faith, I found myself in a position where I can no longer be silent. It seems as though we Christians are not allowed to express our beliefs without being harassed.

First of all he totally disregarded the fact that, in The New Testament, Christ came to pay the price for all our sins so we could have forgiveness. Because of his sacrifice we now live in a age of mercy and grace. We don”t stone people for their sins, nor do children who don”t honor their parents pay with their lives.

I”ve known a lot of Christians in my lifetime and read a lot of Christian books. I”ve never heard anyone attack a person”s religion in such a vicious manner. I know there are exceptions out there, but they are just that ? exceptions.
