LAKE COUNTY ?Lake County fire protection providers gathered Saturday at Walmart in Clearlake in recognition of National Fire Prevention Awareness Week.
Service providers offered valuable information pertaining to fire safety and prevention, defensible space, fire”s role in nature and more.
Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD), South Lake Fire Protection District (SLFPD), US Forestry Service (USFS), CalFire and Lake County Fire Safe Council (LCFSC) participated in Saturday”s event, which included a small display of equipment from various jurisdictions. Smokey Bear, in giant, inflatable form was also included in the display.
Participating agencies offered information pertaining to particular areas of focus. LCFPD focused its message on proper installation and maintenance of home fire detection devices.
The district offers installation and inspection services year round. Those wishing to access services were provided with appointment opportunities during the event.

“Everybody says their smoke detectors are good and their batteries are checked,” LCFPD Battalion Chief Bill Inman said. “Spring forward, fall back is the time to do it.”
Representatives at the CalFire/LCFSC booth provided mountain of information including that contained in a survival kit.
The kits contained tips for family and pet evacuation, disaster preparedness, defensible space and a homeowner”s check list for making you home fire safe. Representatives also delivered a message on behalf of PG&E.
According to LCFSC Coordinator Linda Juntunen, PG&E is making an effort to educate the public in regard to planting the right tree in the right place.
“What they are trying to do is get people to plant these trees so they don”t grow to hit power lines,” Juntunen said.
A full-color poster guide illustrating nearly 40 different arbor species was offered to the public.
The “Guide to Small Trees near Distribution Lines of Northern California” provides information pertaining to maturity height, tree care and pruning, fire risk and safety, best locations for planting and more.
