I work in customer service, which means that in the course of doing my job I have to smile when I do not feel like it and help people even when they are being obnoxious. Lately though, I have reached the end of my rope with people”s inappropriate behavior and rudeness.
Recently at my work, a young man came in with two other young people, a girl and another boy, all of them in their teens. When I was helping them with their transactions, this particular young man began describing a part of a different girl”s anatomy. As he was expounding on the largeness of this girl”s posterior, his friends did nothing, either to encourage or discourage him, and as a result he just kept talking. Finally, I asked him to stop. My question for every parent and guardian out there is what happened to teaching our kids manners?
Manners are just as important as honesty and integrity. There is a whole generation of youth who will not know how to be a beneficial and contributing part of society because no one took the time to teach them how to be so.
We cannot rely on other people to educate our children and the television is certainly not a reliable teaching tool. We need to step up and take responsibility. Helping our children to know how to behave in a decent manner in public will benefit society, but the greatest reward will be reaped by us, the parents and guardians. Take the time to instill some values in your child ? please.
