CLEARLAKE ? Lake County Fire Protection District (LCFPD) and Clearlake Police Department (CPD) responded to a single vehicle rollover just outside the entrance of St. Helena Hospital Clearlake on Thursday.
The woman driver and her infant were safely removed from the vehicle.
According to CPD Sgt. Rodd Joseph the infant suffered no apparent injuries and the mother, identified as Jackie Smith, 21, of Clearlake voiced only complaints of pain.
LCFPD loaded Smith onto a gurney and rolled her directly to the emergency room from the scene of the accident. The baby, who was properly restrained in child safety seat, according to Sgt. Joseph, was also walked over to the hospital.
The incident occurred at 1:56 p.m. as Smith traveled westbound on 18th Avenue in a Lexus sedan. She apparently lost control around a curve near the bottom of the hill where she rolled it.
“I was right behind her. I saw the whole thing. She went around the corner and the car just flipped on its side,” Kelly Bottorf, of Clearlake said.
According to Sgt. Joseph drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be related to the incident.
