ST. HELENA — Emily Reed scored midway through the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and lift the Middletown Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over the St. Helena Saints in North Central League I interlock varsity girls” soccer action Thursday at St. Helena.
Middletown (12-1) has won eight straight.
The Mustangs did lose Taylor Sloan to an ankle injury ? she rolled her ankle in the second half. Sloan”s goal in the 15th minute of the first half gave Middletown a 1-0 lead. St. Helena answered 12 minutes later to tie the score.
Brittany Cash assisted on both Middletown goals.
“It was a very tight game and both teams had many opportunities,” Middletown coach Louise Owens said.
In other soccer action Thursday:
Kelseyville 2, Willits 0
At Kelseyville, Mon-ique Santana scored twice in the first half to give the Kelseyville Knights a shutout victory against Willits.
Willits beat Kelseyville by the same score on Sept. 29 in Willits.
“We controlled the ball on them,” Kelseyville coach Mark Andre said. “And our four girls in the back played very well on defense.”
Sam Ledesma assisted on one of Santana”s goals.
Fort Bragg 8, Lower Lake 2
At Lower Lake, Jonesha Beasley scored both of Lower Lake”s goals in NCL I North action against Fort Bragg.
Mayra Nava and Natalie Torres assisted on Beasley”s goals.
Fort Bragg led 5-1 after the first half.
St. Vincent 7, Upper Lake 0
At Petaluma, the Upp-er Lake Cougars hung in there for a half before falling to the South-leading St. Vincent Mustangs.
“It was only 1-0 at the half,” Upper Lake coach Mike Sheets said. “The first half we played really, really well.”
St. Vincent is 5-0 and Upper Lake is 0-5.
Boys” soccer
Kelseyville 1, Willits 1 (tie)
At Willits, the Kelsey-ville Knights and Willits Wolvererines battled to a draw in NCL I North boys” soccer action.
Willits scored five minutes into the second half and Kelseyville”s Juan Ninche answered three minutes later to make it a 1-1 game. Salvador Mendez had the assist.
Kelseyville keeper Cristian Gomora kept the tie in order with solid play the rest of the way.
“My goalie had to work,” Kelseyville coach Eduardo Ledesma said. “He blocked a couple of their breakaways.”
Kelseyville is 2-1-1 in the North standings.
Cloverdale 7, Clear Lake 0
At Cloverdale, the Cloverdale Eagles built a 5-0 first-half lead and beat the Clear Lake Cardinals in NCL I South action.
“They were playing very well,” Clear Lake coach Chris Cortez said of the Eagles.
Clear Lake is 1-3-1 in South play and 2-6-1 overall.
Volleyball
St. Helena def. Clear Lake
At St. Helena, in a battle of last year”s NCL I South volleyball co-champions, St. Helena needed the minimum three games to beat the Clear Lake Cardinals, 25-12, 25-12, 25-19.
“St. Helena”s the real deal,” Clear Lake coach Marci Psalmonds said.
Briana Butcher had five kills and eight digs to lead the Cardinals.
Middletown def. Lower Lake
At Middletown, the Middletown Mustangs rallied for a marathon 21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-16, 16-14 North victory over the Lower Lake Trojans.
“We figured out how to pass in the fourth game,” Middletown coach Jennifer Breiner said. “Once we started passing, we had sets and kills.”
Middletown trailed 14-11 in the fifth game.
Kayla Robinson led the Mustangs (2-1) with 18 kills, five blocks and two aces. Jenny McGee added 17 kills and Morgan D”Amico served up seven aces.
Amber Daniels” nine kills paced the Trojans (2-2) and Tashee Denson added six and April White, who left in the fourth game after sustaining a knee injury, had three kills and three blocks.
Cloverdale def. Upper Lake
At Cloverdale, Cloverdale swept Upper Lake 25-10, 25-17, 25-12 in NCL I South action.
Cloverdale improved to 1-2 in the South standings and Upper Lake dropped to 0-3.
