As I stepped out onto the highway from the northeast corner of Dam Road and Highway 53, with the “cross” signal clearly displayed, two Konocti School District buses made a right turn directly in front of me, creating what was all too nearly a hit and run episode.

This was the second time within a six month period that this has occurred and the second time I alerted the school district of the hazard posed by the district”s school bus drivers. It is clear to me that the district did not consider my first call serious enough to warrant a change in the driving habits of its bus drivers.

I will therefore, by necessity, be changing my habits to accommodate the risky behavior of the district”s drivers and use the other side of Dam Road to access Old Highway 53.

I cannot be the only individual in Clearlake who has experienced a near-death experience on behalf of school bus drivers.

For the sake of all pedestrians and the future of the school district, I can only hope that this time something will be done to avoid what next time could be serious bodily injury or death at the hands of reckless bus drivers.
