LAKEPORT ? A Lakeport man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lay hogtied and beaten while yelling for help Tuesday outside a house behind the Record-Bee on South Main Street.

The Lakeport Fire Department took the man after 9 a.m. to Sutter Lakeside Hospital, where REACH Air ambulance flew him out of county, Capt. James Bauman of the Lake County Sheriff”s Office said. Bauman did not know the man”s condition Tuesday and could not release his name or details, including possible suspects.

The sheriff”s office is still investigating, but evidence “indicates the assault may have been the result of an apparent home invasion and attempted robbery,” Bauman said.

The man said he”d been tied up at the house since dark, officer Carla Hockett of the sheriff”s office said.

“He definitely didn”t do it to himself,” Hockett said.

A Record-Bee employee heard yells for help next door and called 9-1-1 Tuesday morning. Lakeport police and Lake County Sheriff officers then responded to the house after 9 a.m. where they found the man, Bauman said.
