LAKEPORT ? The County Transfer Station and Landfill on Bevins Street in Lakeport will close Nov. 28, saving the county about $250,000 in salaries, benefits and operational costs.

A 25 percent drop in refuse disposed of at the transfer station has cut annual revenue by $500,000, public services director Kim Clymire said Tuesday in a press release. Lake County Waste Solutions, formerly Timberline Disposal Recycling, will expand their Soda Bay Road transfer station site and take over and improve county transfer station operations. Lake County Waste Solutions will provide a one-stop disposal and recycling facility starting Dec. 1.

The Board of Supervisors decided to close the county transfer station at Clymire”s recommendation and because the station needs improvements that aren”t economically feasible, Clymire said.

Lake County Waste Solutions at 230 Soda Bay Road in Lakeport disposes of household refuse, recyclables, appliances, tires, green waste, electronics, concrete, roofing materials, asphalt and other items the county transfer station couldn”t accept. The facility is open 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Lake County Waste Solutions will charge the same as the county, $48 per ton, but for loads more than five cubic yards will be based on weight, not approximate volume.

“Some people will pay less and some people will pay more,” Clymire said in the press release.

Loads of five cubic yards or less will be based on volume.

Clymire said the change in refuse stations is “win, win” and will improve service while reducing cost.
