PETALUMA — The worst and best matches of sophomore Vanessa Tullos” brief varsity volleyball career were one in the same Tuesday night as the Clear Lake Cardinals rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat St. Vincent 23-25, 10-25, 25-23, 25-16, 15-9 in a North Central League I South contest at Petaluma.
The win moves Clear Lake (4-2) into a second-place tie with St. Vincent (4-2) in the NCL I South standings and avenges a four-game loss to the Mustangs back on Oct. 8 in Lakeport.
The 2 ?-hour marathon featured the very best and worst Tullos, an outside hitter, had to offer, according to coach Marci Psalmonds, who said a pep talk after the second game seemed to achieve the desired effect.
“She had no kills in the first two games and 20 kills the last three games,” Psalmonds said. “Once she decided to start playing she was unstoppable.”
Tullos also had 19 digs.
Another key contributor was Riley Gabehart with seven kills and six blocks.
With two players out sick, the Cardinals called up Coree Alexander from the junior varsity squad.
“She played great defense as our libero,” Psalmonds said.
