KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights tuned up for their big North Central League I North finale on Thursday against Fort Bragg with a 4-1 varsity boys” soccer interlock win on Tuesday afternoon against the visiting St. Vincent Mustangs.
Oscar Martinez scored twice for the Knights (9-3-3) — once in each half — and Salvador Mendez and Cristian Gomora also added goals. Gomora, the Knights” keeper, came out of the box to play forward for the final 15 minutes of the game and his penalty kick with a minute left gave Kelseyville its final goal.
The Knights led 2-0 after one half. Martinez”s second goal of the game made it 3-0 in the second half before the Mustangs finally scored.
Standouts for the Knights included Tony Castellanos, Jorge Mendez, Gabriel Aguilera and Salvador Mendez, according to coach Eduardo Ledesma.
“They all did an excellent job,” Ledesma said.
Kelseyville, Willits and Fort Bragg are tightly packed atop the North standings as the regular season winds down. Kelseyville and Willits are both 4-1-2 and Fort Bragg is 4-0-2.
Kelseyville tied Fort Bragg 1-1 in their first league meeting on Oct. 16 in Kelseyville. The Knights went 0-1-1 in their two games against Willits.
Thursday”s action in Fort Bragg starts at 4:30 p.m.
