I frequently park on the backside of Lakeport Safeway with the belief that it is safer. Well, that theory went out the door last Sunday night. My husband and I were going shopping around 5:30 p.m. when we rounded the parking lot on the backside and passed by a black Chevy truck that was siphoning gas from a van. He had backed into the space and had the driver”s door open, so it was sort of hidden, but I saw the green hose and promptly reported it to two Safeway employees.
They approached him, he denied that he had done that and while we were shopping they let him go. One employee wrote the license plate numbers down, but apparently one character was wrong. There was no doubt what he was doing and shortly after getting home Safeway called to ask for a description of the truck, the van he took the gas from turned out to be a Safeway employee and the guy took every bit of his gas.
Beware; it is not all that safe to park on backside of Lakeport Safeway.
