ARCATA — Middletown High School senior Lisa Copeland fired a 5-over-par 79 on Monday during the North Coast Section Tournament of Champions in Arcata and will advance to next Monday”s Northern California Championships in San Jose.
Copeland is making her second straight trip to the NorCals, which are taking place at Almaden Country Club, a former stop on the LPGA Tour. Only the top three teams and the low-scoring three individuals who are not members of the top three teams move on the CIF State Championships the following week.
“She”s tournament hardened,” Kelseyville High School golf coach said when asked about Copeland”s chances of reaching the state tournament. “Everyone else in that field is too.”
Teams and golfers from six different sections will be represented at the NorCals.
During Monday”s action at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata, Grace Na fired a 3-under-par 71, the low individual score, to lead Alameda High School to the team championship with a score of 416. Foothill came in second with 438 and Granada was third with 442.
Earning the four available at-large berths into the NorCals were Linda Brown of San Leandro with a 75; Stephanie Shieh of Monte Vista with a 77; and Copeland and Laruen Kondor of Livermore, both with 79.
Copeland”s round consisted of three birdies, seven pars and eight bogeys.
