LAKEPORT ? With hope to reconstruct the Highway 29 and Highway 20 intersection, the Lake County City Area Planning Council told staff Wednesday to push Caltrans move forward.
Director Roy Parmentier took part in a subcommittee that agreed Caltrans and the California Transportation Commission need to commit to the project within six months so the council can support the first phase of the project. Council staff later met with Caltrans representatives in Sacramento.
“Tell Caltrans to put up or shut up,” Parmentier said. “We”ve spent a lot of money on this project. Is it going to happen?”
Continued delays, cost increases and environmental research have caused directors to ask whether the project will be completed or if they should look at alternative sites for improvements.
Director Andy Peterson said he hoped to see alternatives for the project.
“We”ve spent around $7 million. If it”s not going to accomplish the objectives, maybe we shouldn”t support it,” Peterson said. “I don”t think this is a good project. I don”t think it”s going to be built. If it”s built, it”s not going to be what we wanted.”
