SAN JOSE — Double-bogey fives on each of the front-nine par-3 holes came back to haunt Middletown High School”s Lisa Copeland on Monday at the CIF Northern California Championships at Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose.
Copeland, a senior, finished with a 6-over-par 77 to miss a berth in next week”s CIF State Championships by just two strokes.
The final at-large berth into the state tournament went to Alex Wong of St. Ignatius, who finished with 75. The day”s low round belonged to Hannah Suh of Evergreen High School with 70.
Other low individual rounds went to Grace Na of Alameda and Marika Tumangan of Presentation High School, both with 71; Taylor Camany of Salinas (72); and to Haley Andreas of Pacific Grove and Stephanie Hsich of Monte Vista, both with 74.
Copeland tied for 15th place overall in the 88-player field. The highest round of the day was a 149.
During her 18-hole round, Copeland shot 40 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine. All three of her double-bogeys came on par-3 holes. She also had two birdies on her back nine.
St. Francis won the team title with 395, Alameda was next at 399, and Granada came in third with 420.
Copeland also qualified for the NorCal playoffs last season.
