LAKEPORT ? Lakeport dog owners can expect a licensing bill in the next few weeks.

The Lakeport Police Department Animal Control Division will be mailing out bills for about 400 licensed dogs in the city, Lt. Brad Rasmussen said in a press release. While dog owners will be billed annually, the tags will be permanent and don”t need to be changed after this year. Bills are due Feb. 28 and cost $10 for spayed or neutered dogs and $50 for un-spayed or un-neutered animals, police said. A fee of $15 will be added for late bills. Lakeport does not have discounted rates for senior citizens, seeing-eye dogs, American Kennel Club registered, breeding, herding and working dogs, police reported. All rates cost the same as Lake County Animal Care and Control. Lakeport police took over licensing for the Lakeport from the Lake County Animal Care and Control in late 2008.

Lakeport dog owners who do not receive a bill can call Lakeport police at 263-5491 or e-mail petlicensing@lakeportpolice.org for a license form.
