LAKEPORT ? The Lakeport City Council unanimously approved the final agreement with Mendocino College Tuesday to build the Lake Center on Parallel Drive.
Mayor Pro Tem James Irwin had one question after staff recommended approval and then the council voted without further discussion.
The council also unanimously voted to request the Local Agency Formation Commission, or LAFCO, to start city annexation of the 99-acre land in the Linda Lane area on behalf of Goldwater Bank. The bank lowered its price to the college contingent upon annexation. The land adjoins the 31-acre parcel the college will buy for the Lake Center.
Mike Adams, director of facilities planning for Mendocino College, said he supports the annexation.
“As a member of the community, I”m excited to get to build the college in this community,” Adams said.
Council members addressed a number of other issues at the meeting Tuesday night in City Council Chambers.
The council voted 4-1 to move forward with an ordinance that would limit the recreational operation of off-road vehicles within the city limits. Irwin voted no.
Council members unanimously voted to hire National Grant Services to write three or four grants to apply for Proposition 84 funding to improve and build parks in the city.
The council agreed to direct staff to send letters to owners of vacant properties to see if they”re interested in selling to build Habitat for Humanity houses.
Council members unanimously voted to award the Martin Street Improvement Project to Granite Construction for $14,623.
Council members voted to allow police department employees and retirees to enroll in the PORAC health insurance plan through CalPERS.
