CLEARLAKE ? Dreams are continuing to come true for residents at Orchard Park Assisted Living and Memory Care Community. The latest dream to be fulfilled through the “Ageless Dreams” program was that of 91-year-old Yaeko Gilman.
Gilman, who loves to gamble, wanted to indulge in a nice dinner out. On Nov. 17, Gilman received a lunchtime surprise when she learned that she and her caregiver would be treated to a night”s stay at Robinson Rancheria. The gift was complimented with dinner and breakfast plus $100 gambling money. Rick Mullen Electric donated an additional $100 for Gilman to spend during her outing.
“It”s the support and generosity of the community that allows us to fulfill these dreams,” Orchard Park Administrator Kimberly Kent said. “There is no better reward than the smiles and excitement of our residents when they find out that their dream is about to come true.”
Kent said that Gilman was moved to tears when she heard the good news. “Prior to announcing the dream, we decorated (Gilman”s) dining table with playing cards, dice and a gift basket full of presents from Robinson Rancheria,” Kent said. “Then, we made the announcement when she was seated for lunch. She started to cry, she was so excited.”
The Ageless Dreams program began in August 2008 with the high-flying dreams of three residents. The realization of several other dreams followed including that of one 83-year-old woman”s lifelong desire to jump from a plane. The program was recognized during the Lake County Stars Awards in March for “Best Idea of the Year.”
“We will continue to host special events and activities to fulfill our residents” dreams, both past and present,” Kent said, “and we invite businesses and individuals to participate in the celebration of our residents and their ?Ageless Dreams.””
Kent said this is a great opportunity for individuals and businesses to share in the reward of fulfilling someone”s dream. “Many of these dreams were likely thought to be lost by our residents due to their age, finances or physical challenges,” she said. “But, with a little help and community support we can make it all happen.”
