Is the Bible relevant?
By Wendy White
There”s something quite disturbing about the statement in Danielle Holliday”s letter of Nov. 25. First, to accept the Bible today as relevant is to ignore 2,000 years of social evolution. It”s a bit like a doctor today practicing according to 2,000 year-old medical texts.
Secondly, the statement, “We know the true agendas behind gay marriage, immigration, health care, vaccines, the mortgage crisis, etc., doesn”t make sense unless the writer meant this in a positive way that gay marriage is good, immigration strengthens our nation, health care is a right, vaccines stop epidemics, the mortgage crisis was an overdue market correction, etc.
And thirdly, those with religious convictions who hold scorn for their neighbors, such as the mayor of Vallejo, don”t exemplify the Christians who believe in the Bible”s golden rule.
