Danielle Holliday”s letter in the Record Bee Nov. 25, “Clearing up misconceptions,” was fascinating with her assertion that “you cannot be confused” by biblical confusions and contradictions using a study Bible, Strong”s concordances and other cross-references. Unfortunately many of us do not have the time nor the inclination to do this circular research and are therefore not in the know and are assuredly condemned to retributions found in the Book of Revelation; perhaps never to know the true agenda behind gay marriage, immigration, health care, vaccines, the mortgage crisis or why I lust after ice cream.
May I ask Danielle why she does not accept the most logical answer about the confusions and contradictions? There truly are confusions and contradictions today because the Bible was written over the course of several hundred years and was interpreted and reinterpreted several times. There is no true original version to be found. One need only observe the number of different Christian sects, different Jewish beliefs and the Quran to see how the original word has been interpreted in many ways.
If God wanted to provide a crystal clear message (and why wouldn”t he/she/it want the clearest message possible?) perhaps there could be other media available other than stone tablets of the Ten Commandments. Where are those stone tablets anyway?
If God were more hip, perhaps we would have a radio address in the 1950s, a video in the 1970s, and a CD in the 1990s. How about a MTV video for the less-educated or more musically inclined. An appearance on Dancing With the Stars? How about a travelogue on Heaven and Hell?
As to whether the Bible is confusing or not?I”m waiting for the movie!
