KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights didn”t waste any time putting plenty of distance between themselves and the Round Valley Warriors on the scoreboard Thursday morning in a first-round varsity girls” game at the 38th annual Stokes Tournament in Kelseyville.

Kelseyville (5-1) built an 18-3 lead in the first period and quickly emptied its bench against Round Valley, going on to win 58-36.

In other girls” first-round games on Thursday, St. Helena breezed past Ferndale 62-22 behind 22 points from Maddy Densberger and 17 from Missy Particelli, Arcata knocked off Middletown 38-24, and Piedmont smacked Fort Bragg 78-24 behind 29 points from Saidah Allen.

Tonight”s winner”s bracket games feature St. Helena against Piedmont at 4:30 p.m. and Kelseyville against Arcata at 7:30 p.m.

Kelseyville 58, Round Valley 36

Skyler Olsen”s 17 points led a balanced Kelseyville scoring attack that also featured 11 points each from Sarah Johnson and Liz Berry. Those three players accounted for all six of the Knights” 3-pointers, with Johnson leading the way with three.

Kelseyville also received another solid effort from its floor leader, senior point guard Monique Santana.

“She had only five points, but she also had seven assists, three steals and four rebounds,” Kelseyville coach Caitlin Andrus said.

“She”s an incredible, well-rounded player. She sees the court so well,” Andrus added.

Khadijah Britton”s 14 points powered the Warriors and Jaylen Wilson added 12.

Arcata 38, Middletown 21

Outside of Alexis Rockwell”s 10 points, including the Mustangs” only 3-pointer, and six points from Rachel Sutton, Middletown struggled to get offense from its other players.

The Mustangs (1-4) were still in the game at halftime trailing only 20-13, but a 14-2 third quarter put the game away for Arcata.

Rebekah Matteri”s 10 points paced Arcata and Ashlynn Cox had eight.

St. Helena 62, Ferndale 22

The defending North Central League I South champions and MVP Densberger started strong — scoring 20 points in the first quarter — and never looked back against the Ferndale Wildcats. Half of Densberger”s 22-point total came in the opening period. Particelli”s outside shooting complimented Densberger”s inside play as she hit three 3-pointers.

St. Helena led 35-12 at halftime.

Piedmont 78, Fort Bragg 24

Allen scored 22 of her 29 points in the first half as Piedmont rolled past the Fort Bragg Timberwolves, who managed just four second-half points.

Cherie Ryden”s 11 points — all on free throws — led Fort Bragg. The Timberwolves sank only five shots from the field to go along with 14 made free throws.
