KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights came to play on Friday night ? but only for three quarters. The Arcata Huskies managed to play the entire four and beat Kelseyville 43-32 in a varsity girls” semifinal game at the 38th annual Stokes Memorial Tournament in Kelseyville.

Arcata advances to tonight”s championship game against Piedmont at 6 p.m. Kelseyville and St. Helena play for third place at 3 p.m.

“We just need to learn to bring intensity all the time,” Kelseyville coach Caitlin Andrus said of the Knights” undoing in the third quarter when Arcata outscored them 13-2 to open up a 35-22 lead. “Everybody was waiting for someone to step up.”

Rebekah Matteri scored 11 of her team-leading 17 points at the free-throw line for the Huskies, who didn”t make a basket in the fourth quarter but did sink eight free throws — seven by Matteri.

“She crashes the boards hard,” Andrus said of Matteri. “She wants it, she wants it bad. You can tell by just watching her play.”

Kelseyville lost point guard Monique Santana to foul trouble in the second quarter and she spent a good deal of the game on the bench.

“Ashley Johnson did a great job backing her up,” Andrus said.

Santana still finished with seven assists, four rebounds and three steals, according to Andrus.

Skyler Olsen (18 points) was the only Kelseyville player to reach double figures in scoring. She also had three steals.

“Nothing was falling,” Andrus said of her team”s struggles on offense. “And Arcata plays pretty good defense. They didn”t give us many open shots.

Piedmont 51, St. Helena 47

Piedmont rallied from a 42-32 deficit after three quarters to beat the St. Helena Saints in a winner”s semifinal game and earn a shot at the title tonight against Arcata at 6 p.m.

Maddy Densberger”s 17 points paced the Saints, but she was shut out in the fourth quarter as were most of her teammates. Holle DePina scored 14 points, including the Saints” only five points in the final period.

St. Helena led 10-4 after one quarter and 25-19 at halftime.

Missy Particelli had 12 points for the Saints, who play Kelseyville in the third-place game today at 3 p.m.
