CLEARLAKE OAKS ? Northshore Fire Protection District (NFPD) responded to an out-of-control fire in a fireplace around 2:50 p.m. Saturday on Old Long Valley Road in Clearlake Oaks. According NFPD Battalion Chief Pat Brown, the first unit on scene advised heavy smoke showing from a two story home with exterior flames from the roof and chimney and dispatch was increased to full structure dispatch.
“A very aggressive interior fire attack started with smoke down to the floor of the second floor and flames from two walls on the first floor,” Brown said. “Ceilings and walls were pulled while multiple chainsaws opened up the exterior of walls and roof area.”
Brown said the aggressive interior fire attack saved the large home from being destroyed.
Salvage covers were placed in the living and kitchen area, Brown said. Total damage to the home is estimated at $40,000.
NSFPD responded with one battalion chief, three engines and the newly acquired water tender. Mutual aid was requested from Lake County Fire Protection District, which sent one engine and one water tender. A total of 16 personnel fought the blaze.
