MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Mustangs held their ground for a quarter before succumbing to a much taller and more athletic Salesian squad on Tuesday in a non-league varsity girls” basketball game at Middletown.
Malina Terrell scored 13 points and Ashley Clark added 11 to lead the Pride past the host Mustangs 59-22.
“They have two tall and athletic post players,” Middletown coach Marnin Pyzer said. “There was nothing our girls could do but front them and play as hard as they could.”
Middletown (2-6) did that for a quarter and trailed only 16-10 after the opening period.
“It”s hard to deny them down low,” Pyzer said of the Pride posts.”
The smaller Mustangs trailed 31-13 by halftime.
Haley Tallman, a 5-foot-6 post player for the Mustangs, turned in a strong performance, according to Pyzer.
“She gets beat up in there but she gives it everything she has each and every game,” Pyzer said.
Tallman led the Mustangs with eight points and Alexis Rockwell had five.
