“We didn”t shoot the ball well and we didn”t play well in the third quarter,” Lower Lake coach Marty Udy said.

Berean Christian expanded a 33-27 halftime lead with a 12-6 third quarter.

“We never got into kind of rhythm during the game,” Udy said.

Carlson led the Trojans with 16 points, Davis added 12 and Richardson had 11.

Tyler Charette”s 26 points, including 16 in the first half, powered the Eagles.

The Mustangs put themselves into an early hole and trailed 12-3 after one quarter.

“It may not look like it, be we showed some improvement,” Middletown coach Mike Mullin said of his team”s play on offense. “Our defense also played better, but it”s still not where it should be.”

John Wesley Davis had five points and a team-high nine rebounds for the Mustangs (1-2), who shot 25 percent from the field.

Tulelake 70, Upper Lake 44

At Boonville, The Upper Lake Cougars struggled on defense and committed a season-high 30 turnovers on offense while falling to Tulelake in a final-round game at the Redwood Classic.

“Most of them (turnovers) were unforced,” Upper Lake coach Forrest Stogner said. “We just weren”t ready to play.”

Tulelake scored on a layup to open the game and Upper Lake (2-2) followed with its first turnover of the game.

“They scored another layup and I called a timeout,” Stogner said. “We go from playing good defense all year to not playing any. We stunk at both ends of the court.”

Tulelake led 37-25 aft halftime and 50-31 after three quarters.

Tyler Warren”s nine points led Upper Lake and Mike Cox added seven points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

“Warren played real well,” Stogner said. “I was really pleased with his effort overall.”

At Willits, the Lower Lake Trojans led 14-0 after one quarter and breezed to an easy win over Tomales in the consolation championship game at the Willits Tournament.

Veronica Wilder led the Trojans (5-2) with 11 points and All-Tournament selection Jonesha Beasley added 10.

Lower Lake coach Jim Salmina emptied his bench after the Trojans went into halftime leading 26-5.

“It was another solid outing for us,” Salmina said. “It was a good tourney to pick up a couple of wins.”

While the Trojans are a long way from learning the system Salmina is beginning to put into place at Lower Lake, the former Kelseyville High School coach said his players are improving each and every game.

“I do a lot of things different from what they are used to,” Salmina said. “But they”re doing a great job picking things up. I”ve got a good group of kids. They”re working hard and their attitudes are tremendous.”

Upper Lake 55, Mendocino 24

At Willits, Upper Lake switched to a full-court, man-to-man defense in the second quarter and ran away from the Mendocino Cardinals in the seventh-place game of the Willits Tournament.

The Cougars (2-5) trailed 7-6 after one quarter and Upper Lake coach Don Meri said it was time to mix things up.

“We wanted to see if we could make a move on them and so we decided to turn the pace up,” Meri said.

Upper Lake outscored Mendocino 18-2 in the second quarter and 15-3 in the third quarter before switching to a zone offense in the final period.

Though no Cougar scored in double digits, everyone contributed to the win, according to Meri.

“Everybody got a lot of playing time,” Meri said.
