KELSEYVILLE — Senior guard Andrea Chanier”s 22 points and 18 more from Saidah Allen carried the Piedmont Highlanders to a 76-39 victory over the Arcata Huskies in the girls” championship game Saturday night at the Stokes Tournament in Kelseyville.
Piedmont took control of the game early and led 21-6 after one quarter and 35-21 by halftime.
Cheri Morris joined teammates Chanier and Allen in double figures with 14 points.
Rebekah Matteri scored 15 points — all in the first half — to lead Arcata.
Third place
All-Tournament selection Skyler Olsen scored 10 of her team-leading 21 points in the decisive fourth quarter as the Kelseyville Knights captured third place with a 47-38 victory over the defending North Central League I South-champion St. Helena Saints.
The two teams went to the fourth quarter tied at 25, but it was seniors Olsen and Monique Santana who made the difference for Kelseyville down the stretch. Santana, who finished with 15 points, scored eight of them in the final period, including two 3-pointers.
“Monique decided to start shooting … she had 13 points in the second half and that was big,” Kelseyville coach Caitlin Andrus said.
Andrus said the Saints were “tired” after a grueling 51-47 loss to Piedmont in Friday”s semifinals.
“They were not the St. Helena team we were expecting,” Andrus said.
The Knights” defense also shut out talented St. Helena junior guard Maddy Densberger (12 points) in the fourth quarter. Missy Particelli”s 13 points paced the Saints.
“Skyler was guarding her (Densberger) and she did a real good job,” Andrus said. “We also boxed out real well.”
Kendra Schwegerl pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
Kelseyville improved to 6-2 on the season.
Consolation title
Trailing 19-7 after three quarters, the Ferndale Wildcats finally figured it out in the fourth period, outscoring Middletown 21-6 for a 28-25 win in the consolation championship game.
Kaitlin Regli rallied the Wildcats by scoring eight of her team-leading 12 points in the final period. Desiree Keyes added all six of her points down the stretch for Ferndale.
Alexis Rockwell and Rachel Sutton led Middletown (2-5) with eight points apiece.
Seventh place
Fort Bragg beat Round Valley 50-45 in the seventh-place game despite 34 points from the Warriors” Jaylen Wilson, who sank five 3-pointers. in a losing cause.
Allie Cimolino”s 13 points paced the Timberwolves and Leti Flores added 10.
Fort Bragg led 29-18 at halftime.
