CLEARLAKE ? A Clearlake man was arrested following an armed robbery Friday night.

Khalil Abduljaami, 31 was booked into Lake County Jail on charges of first degree robbery and felon in possession of a firearm.

According to Clearlake Police Chief Allan McClain, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday Sgts. Crandall and Hobbs responded to the area of Flyers gas station following a report of a suspicious person. While in the area, dispatch advised of an armed robbery, which had just occurred at Best Western El Grande Inn on Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.

Chief McClain said that while officers were checking the area a witness informed them that a person matching the suspect”s description was in the area of Snook Avenue. He said when officers arrived on Snook they identified and detained Abduljaami, who allegedly matched the description of the suspect.

Chief McClain said located within close proximity was the handgun allegedly used in the robbery as well as clothing and money.

“There was also a witness who observed Abduljaami switch clothing and discard the clothing in a trash bin near where he was contacted,” he said. “Inside the discarded clothing was the money taken during the robbery, approximately $295.”

After the suspect was identified by two witnesses he was arrested and later transported to Lake County Jail. No one was physically injured in the incident.
