LAKEPORT — A group of teens gathered Saturday to prepare for an upcoming fundraiser to bring Challenge Day to Clear Lake High School.
The vision of the program is that every child lives in a world where they feel safe, loved and celebrated.
The Challenge Day mission is to provide youth and their communities with experiential programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth, and full expression.
The group received a big boost to the effort when the Lakeport Enhanced Education Foundation (LEEF) donated $4,500 to bring Challenge Day to Clear Lake High School. LEEF plans to give the money to the program once the Be the Change Club raises $4,500 and schedules the event, President Phyllis Gabehart of the foundation wrote in a letter.
“As a non-profit ourselves, we understand the difficulty of raising funds in a small community and are happy to help where we can,” Gabehart said.
The “Be the Change Club” will hold a bake sale fundraiser at Safeway in Lakeport on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds go directly to the mission of bringing Challenge Day to Clear Lake High School. Homemade brownies, cupcakes and cookies are featured.
The group is selling mistletoe and plans a “Kids Corner,” for children to decorate their own cupcakes.
