LOWER LAKE — Steven Edwards scored all 18 of his points in the fourth quarter to rally the Clear Lake Cardinals past the Lower Lake Trojans 46-42 in junior varsity action on Thursday at the 16th annual Record-Bee Hoop Classic in Lower Lake.
The Trojans, now 1-2 in tournament action to Clear Lake”s 1-1, went up 34-24 on a 3-pointer in the opening seconds of the final period only to watch that double-digit lead disappear in a matter of two minutes. The lead changed hands seven times before Edwards put the Cardinals ahead to stay by sinking two free throws with 1:40 left in the game.
Edwards worked his way back to the line with 20.3 seconds left and sank two more clutch free throws to make it 45-42. The Trojans turned the ball over with eight seconds remaining and were forced to foul Edwards, who hit the second of two free throws with 4.2 seconds left to put the game out of reach.
Edwards accounted for nearly all of Clear Lake”s 22 fourth-quarter points.
Adrian Perez had 10 points for the Cardinals and Nick Carley had nine.
Brandon Thomas” 14 points paced the Trojans and Chad Mattos and Jeff Davis added nine apiece.
In the early JV game on Thursday:
Kelseyville 68, Upper Lake 38
Kelseyville improved to 2-1 in the JV standings with one game remaining by beating the 0-2 Upper Lake Cougars.
Deven Call and Mark MacDonald led the Knights with 20 and 14 points, respectively. Mark Umalin scored 22 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Cougars.
Kelseyville went ahead to stay on David Ladd”s three-point play early in the first quarter. The Knights had a 20-11 lead by quarter”s end and they pushed that advantage to 36-17 by halftime and 52-22 after three quarters.
Ladd, James Green and Nils Mostin each had eight points for Kelseyville.
