This time of year is very difficult for agnostics. Belief in a superior force/being, but all almighty persons are essentially the same, and the major goal for all is the Golden Rule! No matter what your concept of God is, the basic belief is the same. Whether one is Buddist, Moslem, Christian or Animist ? or whatever ? the goal is the same. Peace, among men!
Over the years, people of different beliefs have developed different ways to deal with the subject. Hasn”t been pretty, but the result is, very simply, that different beliefs have developed into different cultures or vice-versa.
To me, the most important consideration is that sometime during the year we need to say thank you to whatever God we revere. Along with this thought, I have to say that atheists have to be the most courageous people in the world. I would not want to face life with out someone out there to give thanks to.
Very recently my wife, Mary Ann, and I came much too close to death than we would prefer. We were pushed off the freeway in Healdsburg into a 360 degree spin against the barrier by someone who admitted not seeing us. Lucky or fortunate, who knows? But we never want to be that frightened again. The PTCruiser died, but we escaped with bruises.
Mary Ann, a licensed clinical social worker, has more than earned her right to be protected by a higher authority. I think I have lived a pretty good life. Were we lucky or protected; we”ll never know.
We, Mary Ann and I, wish a marvelous holiday season to all ? and remember, there is someone looking after you! Earn the privilege!
