Our Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2015 and Ladies Auxiliary in Lakeport expanded its annual Christmas gift basket program this year by distributing 45 food baskets to the families of veterans around the lake. Thirteen of those families were the families of our National Guard Armory in Lakeport. These baskets included a turkey and the fixings for a Christmas dinner. Over half of these families have children, so we included gifts for the children of a winter coat, scarfs, shoes, sweaters, shirts and a game for the family. Clothes were the gift that all of the families requested most.
Although the program was supported by donations of time and money by many local veterans organizations like Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 951, the United Veterans Council Military Funeral Honors Team, it was also supported by many local businesses, organizations and citizens of Lake County.
We would like to thank the Lakeport Women”s Civic Club who donated $300 toward purchasing winter coats for the children, Jeff and Jackie Hansen of Grocery Outlet who gave us a $50 gift certificate and also discounted the purchase of groceries for the baskets, Hospice who donated a Christmas tree to a veteran who couldn”t afford one, Ron and Rhea Beth Campos of Campos Casuals who gave us 25 percent off all our purchases for winter clothes and $50 in gift cards, Mack”s Pack a cash donation of $260, cash donations from Lowell Grant of Vintage Realty and Sharon Salvador of Fidelity National Title, and to all the volunteers who helped wrap presents, shop for groceries, clothing, and gifts, and deliver baskets. Thank you all for your support in making this Christmas truly a time of caring, sharing, and giving.
