Sexual assaults in our public schools are not uncommon, according to this morning”s PBS news, including the recent rape of a 12-year-old girl in an academic hallway; suppose the victim were male and became pregnant? What kind of life could the child of such an atrocious encounter anticipate? (One boy”s impregnation could even make therapeutic abortion more acceptable!) Of course abortion is not the solution; education, abstinence and contraception make more sense; instead we have daily TV shows featuring angry young teen girls, a motley assortment of boys and DNA tests winding up with a host pointing at one of the males: “You are the father!” What kind of a life might a child born out of such malice and wretchedness face? What kind of insanity are we fostering?
